Robert S. Tignor

Robert S. Tignor will be sworn in as an Associate Judge of the Superior Court of the

District ofColumbia on Friday, October 26, 1984 at 4:00 p.m. The investiture will be conducted

in Courtroom One of the Superior Court. District Judge Norma Holloway Johnson of the U.S.

District Court for the District of Columbia will administer the oath. Chief Judge H. Carl Moultrie

I of the Superior Court will preside.

Robert Tignor was born in Washington, D.C. to Clarence and Katherine Tignor on

February 27, 1944. He received a B.A. Degree from Howard University in June 1965 and a J.D.

Degree from George Washington University Law School in June 1968. After serving as a Trial

Attorney with the Civil Division of the Department of Justice, he was appointed as an Assistant

United States Attorney for the District of Columbia in December 1969, and thereafter served in

the Misdemeanor Trial Section, the Appellate Section, the Felony Trial Section, and the Criminal

Division of the United States Attorney’s Office. For approximately one year in 1974 and again in

1978 he served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the United States Virgin Islands.

From November 1974 to November 1977, Mr. Tignor was engaged in private practice in

the District of Columbia, first as an associate in the law firm of Ruckelshaus, Beveridge,

Fairbanks and Diamond and then as a general practitioner.

Since February 1979, Robert Tignor has served a a Trial Attorney with the Public

Integrity Section of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division where he has been responsible

for the prosecution of public corruption type cases in various parts of the United States,

including trials and related proceedings in the District ofColumbia, the Eastern District of

Virginia, the Eastern District of New York, the Southern District of Florida, the United States

Virgin Islands and the Central District of California.

Mr. Tignor and his wife Diana have three daughters, Sophia, Kimberly and Dana.
